The University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (UMBI) is one of the two research institutes of the University of Maryland System. Dr. John Trant serves UMBI as both the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Acting Director for Education and Outreach. He is also a faculty member of UMBI’s Center of Marine Biotechnology where he conducted an active research program in molecular endocrinology. His primary focus was on reproductive steroid hormone action at the gene and receptor level. His is currently involved with enhancing UMBI’s Office of Education and Outreach by focusing on the current K-12 Education and UMBI Internship Programs. A Workforce Training Program is currently being developed in both the Shady Grove and Baltimore facilities.

John Trant received his BS from Virginia Tech, his MS from Texas A&M University and his PhD from the University of Texas. He served as an NIH postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
